Lived Experience Consulting

About

Hi, I'm Amie.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and almost ten years of experience as a software engineer, I bring an analytical mindset and project management skills into the field of mental health and alcohol and other drugs.

After a profound experience of mental health challenges in my mid-20s, I became interested in working in the lived experience space. I have had a range of different roles over the years, including as a peer worker and peer educator. I helped set up Canberra’s first Alternatives to Suicide (Alt2Su) group and have spoken and written about my experience for the Big Feels Club.

I am passionate about using my lived experience of distress and service use to strengthen existing programs and increase the variety of support options available to people experiencing mental health challenges. I have been working independently as a consultant since 2024.

Testimonials

"Amie's mix of professional skills and lived experience is such a gift. She's top of our list when we need help with a Big Feels Club project. Super conscientious in her work, and always just good fun to work with. She's a favourite with our audience too, having written and spoken beautifully about her own personal experience for our newsletter and podcasts."

— Graham Panther, Big Feels Club

"Amie just gets it. Using her lived experience and listening to others’ perspectives means she’s got a solid grasp of why we do this work. And she’s got the skills to quickly understand what needs to happen and then comes with ideas that take the work from good to great."

— Gareth Edwards, Creator
